CAMPING

 

ADVENTURES FOR L.I.F.E CAMP ~ Weeklong resident and day camp programs for people with disabilities ages 12 and up.  Active program includes swimming, ropes course, kayaking, archery, horseback riding and traditional camp skills.  *New in 2009* A week long canoe trip on the Namekoagon River in Northern Wisconsin, a week of Day Camp especially for people with traumatic brain injury and a week of day camp for campers aged 8-11.   Resident camp held at Friendship Center near Dodgeville.  Transportation from Milwaukee to Dodgeville provided, with additional pick ups along I-94.   Day camp sessions, including one week for you people with autism, are at Blue Lotus Farm and Retreat Center near Newburg.  Transportation to and from camp each day included in the fee. CAMP COURAGEOUS OF IOWA ~ Year-round recreation, respite care & travel camp.  Traditional and adventure activities offered, like rock climbing, low rope courses, swimming, canoeing, nature, crafts & more. CAMP WAWBEEK ~ Wisconsin Dells ~ When campers arrive at Camp Wawbeek just north of Wisconsin Dells, they have full access to 400 acres of beautiful woodlands.  Within the classic camp setting, campers can boat, fish, hike, climb, swim, play basketball, do crafts, race through obstacle courses and fly through the air on a zipline!  Dorms provide comfortable accommodations, and the dining hall is a central meeting sport for more than just meals.  Campers are encouraged to challenge themselves with new experiences and set goals for new accomplishments.  There is plenty of fun and time to relax while making new friends and reminiscing with old ones.  During the evening, campers can attend dances and special events, perform a little karaoke, join in singing songs and laughing over stores told around a campfire.  Camp Wawbeek has a registrered nurse living on-site and one cournselor for every three campers.  Counselors are highly trained to meet the individual needs of each camper - whether that's helping with personal care of acting as a cheerleader as a camper tackles karaoke for the first time!  Parents and caregivers can take comfort in kinowing that their loves ones' needs are being met; giving them the chance to take a break from the daily stresses and take time for themselves.  Outcomes include easier adjustments to new environments, a great sense of personal satisfaction, and improved personal habits that contribute to a healghy lifestyle.  Best of all, the firendships formed at camp provide a support and social network that can last a lifetime.  At camp, disabilities seem to disapper as campers build confidence and realize just how much they can do.  During the summer, six and twelve-day Youth and Teen sessions are available as well as six-day Adult sessions.  In addition, a variety of weekends for all three age groups are offered between September and May.  Contact:  Easter Seals WI Camps, 101 Nob Hill Road, Suite 301, Madison, WI  53713; 800-422-2324 EXT. 124; email: camp@wieasterseals.org; website: www.eastersealswisconsin.com

 

RESIDENTIAL CAMP SANDY WHEELS ~ Mt. Morris ~ Located at Mt. Morris Camp and Conference Center.  Serving individuals ages 5 and up having a physical or cognitive disability in Adams, Calumet, Fond du Lac, Green Lake, Marquette, Outagamie, Waupaca, Waushara, and Winnebago Counties first and if openings are available outside these counties.  Two one-week camp sessions are held each year.  Specially trained counselors and volunteers offer special attention to each camper making as normal as possible the camping experience.  There are also dances, talent shows, awards, swimming, crafts and bonfires in the evening.  Contact:  Cerebral Palsy of Mideast Wisconsin, P.O. CAMP WINNEBAGO ~ Caledonia, MN ~ Dedicated to serving the recreational needs of adults and children with developmental disabilities ages 6 - 70.  We offer week long residential camping sessions and various travel trips.  We offer activities such as swimming, arts and crafts, music and drama, sports, fishing and other nature activities.  We specialize in providing a "Fun Though Accomplishment" atmosphere and focus on our campers abilities rather than their disabilities.  Situated on 116 acres in beautiful southeastern Minnesota, Camp Winnebago also provides family camping and off-season cabin, dining hall and kitchen rentals.  For further information please call 507-724-2351 or visit our website at www.campwinnebago.org.

 

THE CHRISTIAN DISCIPLE FARM ~ Sullivan ~ This is a day camp for any child with special needs (ages 3-21) and their parents and siblings. The camp is $25 per person (with a max of $100 per family). Activities include: rock wall climbing, fishing, games, nature activities, and crafts. This camp is a day camp/vacation bible school that is held from Aug. 10-14, 2009 at Raspberry Hill Farm near Sullivan, WI.  Volunteers are also needed as personal buddies for campers with special needs. FOX VALLEY DAY RESPITE ~ Appleton ~ These sessions are open to individuals with moderate to severe cognitive and/or multiple disabilities.  The program is coordinated by Easter Seals' Assistant Respite Coordinator and a registered nurse will be on site throughout the day, which runs from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.  Lunch and snack is provided.  Participants may sign up for a single Saturday or for as many as all five.  Easter Seals Respite Services gives parents and caregivers time away from the stresses of caring for a loved one (ages 3 and up) with disabilities, allowing them the opportunity to have time to themselves, spend time with their other family members or friends, run errands, and take care of all those other activities that go into having a well-balanced life.  Trained counselors provide care on a 1 - to - 1 basis.  Contact:  Easter Seals WI Camps, 101 Nob Hill Road, Suite 301, Madison, WI  53713; 800-422-2324 EXT. 124; email: camp@wieasterseals.org; website: www.eastersealswisconsin.com

You can even take test your skills on our ropes course. WISCONSIN ELKS / EASTER SEALS RESPITE CAMP ~ Aspergers Porgram ~ Wisconsin Dells ~ Approximately 1.5 million Americans are believed to have some form of autism.  To help meet the needs of this growing population, Easter Seals Wisconsin has created sessions for campers ages 7 - 18 with Asperger Syndrome and high-functioning Autism Spectrum Disorders.  Campers are divided into age groups and take full advantage of Easter Seals' 400 beautifully-wooded acres as they engage in age-appropriate activities designed to promote positive social interactions.  These activities range from creative arts, sledding and cross-country skiing during winter weekends to swimming, hiking and camping out under the stars during the week-long summer session.  Outings to Wisconsin Dells and nearby attractions are also arranged to encourage appropriate community behavior.  Our well-trained staff members are always at hand to encourage participation in activities, both old and new, and to assist in fostering relationships between the campers, helping them to form friendships with their peers.  They also ensure that each camper's emotional needs are met.  A ratio of one staff member to every two campers in maintained, with the opportunity to one-to-one support as needed.  To help reduce anxiety, schedules of activities are mailed to campers before they arrive at camp.  Our menu is also available on request to assist in accommodating special diets.  While the counselors are trained to handle social and behavioral issues, our goal is for campers to fee good about themselves and each other, and to have fun.  A one-week summer session and two winter weekends are available for campers interested in this innovative program.  Contact:  Easter Seals WI Camps, 101 Nob Hill Road, Suite 301, Madison, WI  53713; 800-422-2324 ext. 124; email: camp@wi.easterseals.com;  website: www.eastersealswisconsin.com
